Use Adjectives

When writing a good blog post title, using adjective is impactful when it comes to how often your article is going to be clicked.

Adjectives are intriguing and can tell the reader about the quality of the content and how the article can be useful to them. When creating a blog post tittle with adjectives, avoid exaggerating, and repetition. Be simple and straight-forward.

Examples of blog post titles with adjectives:
  • Simple ways to sleep better at night

Don’t lie about your content. Yes, I said that! Stay accurate when it comes to your blog post. Be truthful and write title based on your content.

Make sure your readers know what exactly they’re getting themselves into to avoid increasing bounce rate.

Keep it Short

Although you are writing for human consumption, and maybe, sometimes need to elaborate a little with a blog post, you also have to understand that you’re writing for search engines as well. So, work on your keywords, LSI, and make sure you’re pleasing Google, Bing and the rest by keeping your blog post titles short, and informative. That’s how you write good blog post titles.

A lengthy title is bad for SEO and hence a bad practice.

Use Number Titles & Lists

Using a number title is easy and pre-informs the reader about the various type of information they’re about having if they should click and read through your blog post or article.

Example of Number Titles & Lists include;
  • 10 best blogging platform to start a free blog
  • 5 Most Popular Blogger Widgets

  • 5 Benefits of Having Meta Tags in Your Blog

Use Emotional Headlines

People tend to read something that convey emotions than just a random post that is raw and has nothing intriguing. Since emotions are intrinsic, it may lure someone in making a decision. When trying to convey a message around emotions, these are few examples to look at;
  • The sad story of a homeless man
  • A beautiful Christmas Eve in Michigan
Basically, both happy and sad moments can make a good blog post title.

Use Keywords

In as much as you want to please your readers, you’d have to first, please search engines to enable them show your blog posts on their top pages. Writing a good blog post title should start with great SEO in mind.

In my previous blog post, I discussed the essence of long-tail keywords and short-tail keywords. In short, short-tail is competitive and vice versa. So, to rank and get more traffic to your blog or website, it is important to focus on less competitive keywords to ensure that you top in search results.

Tell Them the Benefits

What benefit will a consumer or reader gain when they read through your blog post? Make it known to them. This is another way to write good and catchy blog titles. The simplest form to writing good blog titles that spreads benefit, is using the “How-to” method. For instance;

Instead of;
  • Look at 5 amazing logo designs.  Say;
  • How to design amazing logos
Which of these headlines conveyed a benefit?

Break Your Title into Two

Yes, I do it too. In one of my articles on this very blog. I had a blog post with two titles. The title was: Create a Free Blog: 10 Best Free Blogging Platforms.

What did I do?
  • I first told them it was possible to create a free blog. Then;
  • I told them which platforms were best for creating free blogs.
This is not only good for SEO, but also great for getting high-clicks on Google and other search engines. With one blog post, I solved two different problems.

Bottom Line

At least now we know how to write a good blog post title that drives traffic. But, what’s left? It’s important that you note that, you have to be stay original with your blog titles. Do not copy what someone else is doing. Be creative, be unique and of course, you’ll do even better when you try to be a little sexy with your headlines.

Furthermore, although it’s awesome to grab the attention of a reader, it is also essential that you optimize your blog post titles for SEO. Writing a good blog post title is worth nothing unless, it’s seen by the consumer. If you are a creative writer, use long-tail keywords and let that awesome blog post pop up in search results.
